AMD Laptop CPU Beats Its Predecessor By 90%

AMD Laptop CPU Beats Its Predecessor By 90%: If you are a laptop gamer, new benchmarks show that there is a lot to be excited about. The tests that were leaked show how well the upcoming AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX and the Ryzen 7040 laptop APU work.

AMD will soon release a lot of new mobile processors, including two new lines of laptop CPUs and new APUs. Today’s benchmarks give us an idea of how well AMD Ryzen 7045 Dragon Range (processors for enthusiast laptops) and AMD Ryzen 7040 Phoenix (the latest APUs) perform.

Let’s start with the Ryzen 9 7845HX, which is a beast with 12 cores and 24 threads, a maximum clock speed of 5.2 GHz, and a TDP that can go above 55 watts. Soon, laptops like the Alienware M16/M18 and the Lenovo Legion will have the CPU.

It’s not quite the best processor in the lineup. The Ryzen 9 7945HX, which has 16 cores and 32 threads, is better. No matter what, both chips are said to be very powerful, and they have the most cores of any AMD laptop chip ever made.

PassMark tested the Ryzen 9 7845HX, and as you can see above, it’s by far the fastest chip in the database right now. This might change when the Intel Raptor Lake flagship comes out, but for now, the Core i9-13980HX is likely to be the best laptop processor of 2018.

For now, AMD’s Ryzen 9 7845HX is the best because it scored 46,791 points on the multi-core test and 4,003 points on the single-core test. Compared to the Ryzen 9 6900HX, this makes it 90% faster at tasks with multiple threads and 17% faster at tasks that only use one core. Keep in mind that these scores are based on a single benchmark, so the real result might be less impressive, but we’re still looking at huge improvements.

The upcoming Ryzen 7040 APU was also tested, this time by 3DMark Time Spy. Thanks to the new RDNA 3 technology, its graphics performance was a bit surprising.

It has 768 shader cores and, in boost mode, can reach clock speeds of up to 2.9GHz. This makes it better than the GPU in the Steam Deck, which is from the RDNA 2 family of the previous generation and has 512 shader cores.

Tom’s Hardware says that these numbers lead to better benchmark scores. The new AMD APU got about 3,000 points, while the Steam Deck graphics solution only got 1,700 points.

That’s a huge win, but we have to remember that the Steam Deck has a much smaller screen than a typical laptop. The Steam Deck resolution is only 1,280 x 800, but the APU will be in laptops with at least 1080p resolution.

Most gamers will still want to buy a new laptop with a Ryzen 7045 chip instead of a Phoenix APU, but if you want a balanced and light device, it seems that using RDNA 3 graphics gave the Ryzen 7040 a huge boost that might make it more than enough for some less demanding games.

The Ryzen 9 7845HX is a good choice for laptops that are only used for gaming. But both lines will soon have to deal with tough competition from Intel, so things are about to get very interesting.
