Ryzen 7 7745HX, 8-Core Laptop Processor Is As Quick As Core i9-12900HK, 14-Core

Ryzen 7 7745hx mobile cpu benchmarked: AMD’s Ryzen 7045-series (Dragon Range) will power high-performance laptops. Ryzen 7 7745HX benchmarks hint we may soon see AMD-powered mobile powerhouses on store shelves.

Dragon Range is AMD’s first chipset-based mobile processor, announced at CES 2023. TSMC makes AMD’s 5nm FinFET chips. Zen 4 has up to 16 cores and 32 threads in 5nm processors. The specs match AMD’s desktop Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) processors. No coincidence.

AMD moved the chiplet architecture from Ryzen 7000 to Dragon Range, reducing the overall footprint into a more mobile-friendly BGA box.

Dragon Range will utilise RDNA 2 graphics, but this should be fine since the iGPU is only present for light tasks. Although the Dragon Series is designed for high-performance gaming laptops, Zen 4 will likely be paired with a discrete mobile graphics card.

Ryzen 7 7745HX is an eight-core, 16-thread processor with a base clock of 3.6 GHz and a boost clock of 5.1 GHz. It’s an unlocked processor, so user overclocking is on the table. There are 40MB of cache onboard, 8MB from the L2 cache and 32MB from the L3 cache.

Manufacturers can customize the Ryzen 7 7745HX’s 45W–75W cTDP. Dragon Range supports DDR5-5200 memory, and the Ryzen 7 7745HX has the Radeon 610M with two RDNA 2 CUs and 2,200 MHz.

A Bilibili content maker posted Ryzen 7 7745HX Cinebench R23 benchmarks. Be cautious with the results, as the user didn’t reveal his laptop or test settings.

The chip drew 95W, he confirmed. AMD says manufacturers can feed Dragon Range up to 100W. Notebookcheck’s database provided the Cinebench R23 scores for the related processors.

The Ryzen 7 7745HX showed 16% and 32% higher single-core and multi-core performance over the Ryzen 9 6900HX (8C/16T).

The octa-core Zen 4 chip outscored Apple’s M2 Max (12C/12T) by 12% in single-core and 26% in multi-core performance. Ryzen 7 7745X performance was comparable to Core i9-12900HK (14C/20T). AMD’s processor had 2% better single-core performance but identical multi-core performance.

The Ryzen 7 7745HX fell short of the Core i9-12900HX (16C/24T) and Core i9-13900HX (24C/32T).

The Core i9-12900HX outperformed the Ryzen 7 7745HX by 5% and 24% in single-core and multi-core performance.

The Core i9-13900HX outperformed the Ryzen 7 7745HX in single-core and multi-core scores by 12% and 62%, respectively.

More cores gave the Core i9-12900HX and Core i9-13900HX the edge. The Ryzen 9 7845HX (12C/24T) or 7945HX (16C/32T) may challenge Intel’s chips.
